Chucky is the main antagonist in the Child's Play series. He was a famous serial killer named Charles Lee Ray who was shot in a toy store by Detective Mike Norris. Having been taught voodoo by John Simonsen, he perforemd a voodoo spell and transferred his soul into a doll before he died. The doll was given to young boy Andy Barclay, who soon found out the doll was alive. Chucky went on a killing spree that Andy was frequently blamed for, and Chucky was told by John that the longer he spent as a doll he would remain a doll unless he transferred his soul into the first human who knew he was alive: Andy. Since then, he has been trying to transfer his soul into Andy Barclay. Chucky was portrayed and voiced by Brad Dourif.
Serial killer Charles Lee Ray, also known as the Lakeshore Strangler, is on the run from Detective Mike Norris. After managing to briefly evade the police, he enters a toy store full of Good Guy dolls. Mike is able to find him there and fatally shoots him. As a mortally wounded Charles stumbles inside the store, he crashes into a stack of Good Guy dols and one falls next to him. He uses a voodoo spell to transfer his soul into the doll. Lightning strikes the store and sends Mike flying away, but he is uninjured and sees Charles dead body and the doll. The doll is taken by a homeless man and he gives it to Karen Barclay so she can give it to her son Andy. Andy quickly starts to notice that the doll, named Chucky, is alive. Karen's friend Maggie Peterson comes over to babysit Andy and Chucky actually gets up and starts stalking Maggie in the house and grabs a toy hammer. Maggie becomes suspicious and she turns around and is suddenly struck by the hammer. She stumbles backwards and crashes out of the window and falls to her death.
