Iago

Iago is an antagonist turned major character of the Aladdin franchise, appearing as the secondary antagonist of the 1992 film Aladdin, the main protagonist of its 1994 sequel Return of Jafar, a major character of the series Aladdin and the tritagonist of the 1996 film Aladdin and the King of Thieves.

He was initially the pet parrot and right-hand of Jafar, the evil vizier of Agrabah, and helped him in his plot to gain the lamp of the Genie from the Cave of Wonders to become Sultan. When this seemed to have failed, Iago suggested he become Sultan by marrying Princess Jasmine and then kill her and the Sultan. He then stole the lamp when it remerged in the palace and gave it to Jafar, but their plan was foiled by Aladdin, and he was sucked into Jafar's lamp alongside him after Aladdin defeated him. He managed to escape but fell out with Jafar and left him, planning to look out for himself. However, after accidentally saving Aladdin from Abis Mal, Aladdin convinced the Sultan to pardon him, and they became good friends. However, Jafar was released and forced Iago to help him kidnap the Sultan and frame Aladdin. Iago eventually freed Aladdin and his friends, before he returned in the final battle against Jafar and bravely kicked Jafar's lamp into a pit of lava, destroying him, despite picking up heavy wounds in the process. He then went with Aladdin and his friends to see the world, and often helped them in their various adventures. The Forty Thieves ambushed Aladdin and Jasmine's wedding, and Aladdin, Iago and Abu followed them to their hideout and found out that their leader was Aladdin's father Cassim. Iago fell to the temptations of the treasure Cassim was hunting for, but they were caught while looking for it in the palace and imprisoned briefly, before released by Aladdin, who allowed Iago to go with Cassim. After Cassim was kidnapped by his own men, Iago returned to Aladdin and helped him rescue Cassim before he left to explore the world with the latter after Aladdin and Jasmine finally married.
