~ Joker taunting Batman and Nightwing about Jason Todd's death

The Joker is one of the main antagonists in Batman: Under the Red Hood. He is a super-villain and Batman's arch-nemesis, and responsible for the death of Jason Todd, the second Robin.

He is voiced by John DiMaggio.

Role in the film[]

The Joker was originally an unidentified criminal who donned the moniker of the Red Hood. During a confrontation with Batman at a chemical plant, the man tripped and fell into a vat of chemicals. The results bleached his skin white, dyed his hair green, and turned his lips red. The resulting transformation resulted in him going insane and becoming Batman's infamous nemesis, the Joker.

At one point, the Joker was hired by Ra's al Ghul to distract Batman with a killing spree while he undermined the economy of Serbia. The Joker led a heist at Bosnia, during which Batman and his sidekick, Jason Todd, attempted to stop him. The Joker fled and was pursued by Jason, but he managed to capture the vigilante. The Joker proceeded to beat Jason with a crowbar and abandoned him in a warehouse he had wired to explode. Despite Batman's attempts to save him, Jason died.

Five years later, the Joker is incarcerated in Arkham Asylum. During this time, another criminal had donned the Red Hood moniker, elading Batman and Nightwing to interrogate the Joker. However, the Joker claimed he had no part in the crimes.

Later on, the Joker was broke out of Arkham by crime lord Black Mask, who intended to hire him to assassinate the Red Hood. However, the Joker instead took Black Mask hostage, along with his and the Red Hood's gangs, threatening to kill them. Sure enough, the Red Hood arrived and revealed his intentions of tricking Black Mask into releasing the Joker. The Joker promptly attempted to set fire to his hostages, but was stopped by Batman. The Joker was then abducted by the Red Hood, who beat him with a crowbar and tied him up in a abandoned building.

Red Hood led Batman to the building, revealing himself as a revived Jason Todd. Jason berated Batman for having not killed the Joker to avenge his death. When Batman refused to kill the Joker, Jason gave Batman an ultimatum: kill him, or Jason would kill the Joker. Batman pretended to leave, prompting Jason to shoot at him. However, Batman threw a batarang into the barrel of Jason's gun, causing it to explode. Nevertheless, Jason set the timer of the bombs in the building. The Joker attacked Batman to prevent him from stopping the bomb, intending for all three of them to perish together. However, Batman incapacitated the Joker and attempted to save Jason as the bomb went off, destroying the building. Despite this, the Joker survived, but Jason vanished.

The Joker was incarcerated in Arkham Asylum afterwards.
