The Jabberwocky is the overarching antagonist of the Alice in Wonderland franchise. He is the overarching antagonist in the 2010 remake of Alice In Wonderland and the posthumous overarching antagonist of the sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass. He is the fearsome Red King of the Underland, and is the Red Queen's partner and leader, as well as the leader of all the matter of evil in wonderland.

He was voiced by the late legendary horror actor Christopher Lee, who has played Saruman.

Information[]

He was similar to the Jabberwocky in the novel, but unlike it, since he was truly evil, mist of black smoke emits out of his wings when they flap, so he is a source of darkness. He can also breathe purple lightning out of his mouth, another trait the Jabberwocky in the book doesn't have.

Personality[]

The Jabberwocky is extremely arrogant, as he cares about nothing but himself. He is evil, vicious, and manipulative, and his desire to take complete control of Underland is what caused him to be killed by Alice, and his minions to turn on him. If he had been a hero (or at least a better character), none of this would have happened at all.

Appearance[]

The Jabberwocky is a huge, black dragon. He has red eyes and enormous wings. He has a T. rex-like head with a frill similar to a Triceratops's frill, but with fewer and longer spikes. Whenever he flies, black mist emits from him, which symbolizes true evil and hatred.

Similar Antagonists[]

  • Earth's Harvester Queen (Independence Day: Resurgence) - Both were the rulers of their respective kingdoms and killed by the films' protagonists. They also appear to be reptilian, but while the Queen wasn't a reptile at all, the Jabberwocky definitely was.
  • Pitch Black (Rise of the Guardians) - Both emit darkness from themselves, and spread it wherever they go.
  • Hadrian (Minecraft: Story Mode) - Both are corrupt officials who want complete control and dominance, and love watching their slaves being tortured; in fact, Hadrians mentions that he is 100% okay with trapping people and making them suffer, forever.
  • Surtr (Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole) - Both are the leaders of their empires, and are killed by the heroes.
  • Captain Salazar (Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) - Both want complete dominance over their territories, and want revenge on someone they have fought long ago (for the Jabberwocky, "the Vorpal one", for Captain Salazar, Jack Sparrow).

History[]

Alice in Wonderland (2010)[]

At first, he is mentioned by the Red Queen to be her master and pet, as his main goal was to keep her in control of Wonderland. Later on, Alice had to fight him, and during the battle, he started talking about his ancient enemy, which defeated him once (one who used the Vorpal sword). Alice cut off his tongue with the same sword, so he tried to finish Alice off with everything he had. The Hatter then interfered, and the Red Queen sent her henchmen to kill him. Soon both armies fought each other and the Jabberwocky pursued Alice to the nearby ruins of a castle. When Alice got to the top of the tower, the Jabberwocky stood up in front of her, and tried to killed her. However, she jumped and cut off his head. His blood was used to send Alice back to her home.

Trivia[]

  • The poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll suggests that he should be simply called the Jabberwock instead.
  • He is constantly thought to be the secondary or tertiary antagonist.
  • His real name is currently unknown, though it is possible that "Jabberwocky" is the name of his species.
  • The Jabberwocky is the only villainous creature in the 2010 remake that does not serve the Queen, unlike the Jub-Jub Bird or the Bandersnatch.
